Leadership is not for the faint at heart. Some days you feel like you are doing a great job and then there are some days you just want to give up. I’m grateful for all my experiences, though, because they taught me how to lean on God. Leading our school through a national pandemic in my first year at 25 years old wasn’t something I was expecting. But is a prime example of how I truly had to learn how to lean on God because it was no way I was going to be able to be efficient on my own. Throughout my leadership experience, I’ve learned that it’s easy to impress people with achievements but we can serve more Impact through our scars/lessons.People equate having a platform or title with “they have it all together.” But there were times when I questioned my ability. Then God reminded me, who I was and who he called me to be. Ipray that you never lose sight of the assignment God has given you and the power He has placed inside you. I hope that through my vulnerability you understand that you are not aloneand it’s okay not to “have it all together”. It’s all a part of the process. Through my learning and experiences, I want to share 5 lessons I’ve learned on my journey that hopefully may help someone navigate this season.
- Trying to please everyone is a recipe for misery, stress, and frustration. If you live for people’s acceptance, you’ll die by their rejection. You have to make decisions that are best for your business/brand and accept the fact that there is a strong possibility that some won’t be happy.
- Small things consistently add up to big things in the long run. Celebrate the small wins and remember it’s a marathon, not a sprint.
- “Winners focus on winning, losers focus on the winner.” I was at a point early on that I would consistently compare myself to other leaders and would begin to lose myself. Be reminded that comparison kills and is the thief of joy. “A flower does not think about the flower next to it, it just blooms.”
- “If you give an inch, they will take a mile.” Set the standard and stay true to it.
- People rarely remember what you say, but they remember how you make them feel. Communication is key in all aspects of life, especially your delivery.
Let’s not limit leadership to a title either. We are all leaders to someone! To all of my parents, friends, and family members, have a blessed day, and be reminded that the goal is progression, not perfection!
We got this 🙏🏽
